There’s an old saying in the South that was actually borrowed from the dominant airline of the area...
“Delta’s ready when you are.”
It used to be the sales line for Delta Airlines in their commercials. However, it’s been taken by good ol’ boy commentators and comedians like Jeff Foxworthy as a slam for those who don’t like stuff here in the South. “If you don’t like things ‘round here, Delta’s ready when you are.”
But I think this can equally apply to a certain faction of Americans, especially those around here who used to make that their personal slogan for others.
However, given our overly litigious society, I’m not going to use that airline’s slogan directly. They can keep that saying. I have one that is just as good.
“Delta is ready for you.”
Of course, when I say “Delta”, I’m not referring to the airline. I am, instead, referring to the “Delta” variant of the COVID-19 novel coronavirus.
You see, it’s been weird these past few weeks, after spending over a year telling people to mask up, and to social distance themselves, and to stay home whenever possible, and to clean and sanitize everything when possible, to suddenly be able to go out and about now that we have all these vaccines in America that protect most of us from even the most lethal “Delta” variant. A year of wearing masks and washing masks and trying to follow “the guidance”, and now, because we got 1 or 2 injections, we don’t have to do that anymore.
Of course, there are those who refused to mask up and refused to social distance and currently refuse to take the vaccines and have invented every wackadoodle excuse under the sun to justify it all. And they are still going about like the virus never existed. Because a lot of them believe the lies spread by the MAGA cult of it being just a “hoax”. Even when they know someone that went to the hospital because of COVID, they still cling to the cult delusion of it being a hoax. And, thus, why should they get a vaccine for something that they believe doesn’t exist?
So now we’re at a point where more than half of the adult populace in America are vaccinated. We’re trying to get the kids vaccinated as well. But we still have that faction that don’t believe in the virus, that don’t believe in masking up and social distancing, and they sure as hell don’t want to take the vaccines. And where once they used to be easy to identify, these folks can just blend right in with the rest of us and just lie about being vaccinated, or else get offended when asked.
And I know this has the liberals a little bit annoyed. I mean, they really want people to be vaccinated and to be safe so we won’t have to deal with this pandemic anymore. I don’t doubt their sincerity on this. The problem is that we have a faction of Americans that have been politicizing this whole pandemic to a level that is obscenely inexcusable. There are sadists at all levels of government that don’t care if people suffer and/or die just as long as businesses keep open and people are both working and spending money. There are also some folks who haven’t really drunk the MAGA Kool-Aid, but they still have some doubts about the safety or the effectiveness of the various vaccines. These are the so-called “vaccine-hesitant” folks, as opposed to the all-out stupid that say they’ll never get the vaccine at all and good luck getting them to wear a mask or social distance.
To all those folks, I simply say this...
Delta is ready for you.
If you still think that COVID-19 is some hoax invented by the Democrats and/or the Chinese, that’s fine.
Delta is ready for you.
If you still think that “your god” is “greater” than the pandemic, even after numerous reports of religious leaders who made the same claim later getting and dying from that same pandemic, that’s fine.
Delta is ready for you.
If you refused to wear a mask and/or practice social distancing for whatever made-up reason you could muster and refuse to take any of the different vaccines for a whole bunch of made-up reasons, including some phony magic trick shared on YouTube or TikTok or Twitter, that’s fine.
Delta is ready for you.
If you’re one of those folks that want to parrot the pro-choice feminists and scream “My Body, My Choice” when it comes to the vaccine, that’s fine. It really is your choice. Always has been.
Delta is ready for you.
If you think it’s more important to show up at a nationalist rally or to take a cruise or even show up at your local picnic than to make sure that people are vaccinated, that’s fine. That’s your call.
Delta is ready for you.
Because let’s get brutally honest here... it doesn’t matter whether you “believe” in the virus or not, or where it supposedly came from, or whether you think either the masks or the vaccines are “effective” or part of some sinister plot that only exists in YouTube, TikTok, and Twitter. Delta, and the rest of the COVID variants, will still be ready for you just the same.
It doesn’t care what you “believe” in, or whether you think “your god” is greater than it, or if it was created in a lab or in a cave or just popped out of thin air. It doesn’t matter who you voted for or whether you get your information from doctors or from a TikTok video or a Facebook post. It’s a virus. It doesn’t think. It doesn’t have to. It’s just ready for you.
The reason why there are all these variants to the coronavirus, including Delta, is because of the folks that refused to stay home, that refused to mask up, and that refused to social distance last year. You gave the virus time to mutate. To... evolve. Even if you don’t believe in evolution. It didn’t care. It just did.
And now, in America, we’re being told that the only folks currently in the hospital with COVID are the ones who refuse to take the vaccine. And, I would speculate, probably also weren’t the ones staying home or wearing masks or did the social distancing. Because, you know, you didn’t want to. But that’s fine... because Delta is ready for you.
Delta’s a pretty nasty variant of the virus too. Works faster, hits harder, and is more likely to strike before you can try any of those supposed “miracle cures” that a certain orange-skinned narcissist tried to peddle last year in lieu of a vaccine. Doesn’t matter. It’s just itching to get to you.
There are many places around the world that are talking about going back under restrictions just because of how nasty Delta is and how fast it’s spreading. And I know that, here in America, a lot of folks don’t want to spend any more time under those restrictions, especially those that refused to adhere to them the first time around.
Now you can come to me about “freedom” and “my body, my choice” and all that other stuff, and that’s fine. Because it’s really not up to me or anyone else when it comes to you staying healthy and not confined in intensive care with tubes stuck down your throat to help you breathe.
Just realize that, no matter what, Delta is ready for you.
